Hello and welcome! My name is Chase D. Fowler (he/they), and I am a classically trained actor based in the Appalachian region. More specifically, I currently call Martinsburg, West Virginia home.I have both an MFA and an MLitt, both in Shakespeare and Performance from Mary Baldwin University where I acted in plays by Shakespeare, his contemporaries, and even the premiere of a restoration comedy by Elizabeth Polwhele called The Frolicks, or The Lawyer Cheated. Before my time at MBU, I received my B.A. in Theatre from Lenoir-Rhyne University, where I worked mainly with contemporary theatre and TYA.Besides acting, I also direct! During my time at MBU, I co-directed a production of Arden of Faversham, solo directed The Duchess of Malfi, and even directed the stage reading of a brand new work by one of my classmates, The Fall of Thebes, written by Andrew Steven Knight. When I'm not working on lines or developing a concept for yet another show, I can be found writing my own scripts, reading, or binge watching something on Netflix.

REVIEWS
"Chase Fowler plays another political powerhouse (Pompey) alongside Antony and Caesar, but distances himself from the others by giving him a far more intelligent and less physically intimidating attitude. Still, he lives by a code that makes him an interesting character to see interact with the others." - Andrew Watkins, Allegany Magazine (Cumberland Theatre's Antony & Cleopatra)
WRITING
While I work both as an actor and a director, I also do some writing! Of course, I have a thousand unfinished projects I could talk about for hours, but can you really call yourself a writer if you don't? Anyways, here is some info on works of mine that have been published or completed.
ACADEMIC WRITING
Living, Dead, or Some Secret Third Thing | Spring 2023
A thesis written to satisfy completion of my MFA at Mary Baldwin University. This project focused on the process of directing an early modern play (John Webster's The Duchess of Malfi) and compared it to the process of directing a new work (Andrew Steven Knight's The Fall of Thebes). Abstract and PDF of this thesis is available upon request.
"An If Thy Tongue Can Speak;" Exploring the Ways Language Creates an Other in Titus Andronicus | Spring 2022
A thesis written to satisfy completion of my MLitt at Mary Baldwin University. This project was a deep dive into Shakespeare's controversial early work Titus Andronicus, focusing on the way the language in the play is used to create an Other. Chapters include ways the language created an othering that differentiated those who are Roman or not, gendered othering, racial othering, and othering created through metrical variation. Abstract and PDF of the thesis is available upon request.
